What does ticket cap mean?
A ticket cap is the maximum number of tickets that can be sold for a single competition. Once that number is reached the competition closes early, even if the original closing date has not yet arrived.
You can think of the cap as the size of the entry pool. A 1,000-ticket competition has at most 1,000 entries. A 5,000-ticket competition has at most 5,000.
Why ticket caps matter
Without a ticket cap you cannot really judge a competition. The total number of tickets directly affects how the draw plays out, so it is one of the few facts you genuinely need before you enter.
A clear cap also protects entrants. It rules out unlimited ticket pools that grow quietly in the background, and it gives you a fair basis for comparing one competition against another.
How TopDraw shows ticket caps
Every TopDraw competition shows its ticket cap on the [live competitions](/competitions) listing and on the competition detail page. We display the maximum tickets available alongside the current entries, so you can see at a glance how full the competition is.
If a competition reaches its cap before the closing date it is marked as sold out and no further entries are accepted, paid or postal.
Ticket caps and estimated chance
Showing the cap is not a promise about your chance of winning. Your individual chance depends on the cap, on how many tickets you hold and on how many other valid entries are submitted.
What the cap does give you is the upper bound. You always know the largest possible draw pool before you decide to enter.
